Has your child begun to experience the pains of teething? Teething occurs when a child’s teeth begin to erupt above the gum line. If your child is experiencing pain or discomfort from teething, there are a few tips and tricks you can use to treat your child’s discomfort.

You can try to alleviate any pain they are feeling with teething rings, your finger, gauze pads, clean utensils, and cold objects such as spoons. Always make sure every object that goes into your child’s mouth is free of contamination. Cleaning a product with your own mouth will not help as it will only spread bacteria you have in your mouth to your child.

Typically, children who are teething will be extra fussy, and perhaps have a loss of appetite. If you notice they are having trouble sleeping or are drooling more than usual, check their mouths for signs of teething. If they begin to have diarrhea or rashes develop, they may need additional care. Any signs of fever or chills during teething should be dealt with by consulting their pediatrician as soon as possible.
